UKAEA launches new Spinout Accelerator
UKAEA opens its Spinout Accelerator at Culham, giving innovators space and support to turn breakthrough ideas into market‑ready ventures.
UKAEA has unveiled its new Spinout Accelerator at Culham Campus – a purpose‑built space designed to help innovators transform cutting‑edge ideas into commercial ventures that can impact fusion and wider industries. The facility marks a significant step in strengthening the UK’s fusion innovation ecosystem, ensuring promising technologies can progress from research into market‑ready solutions.
Officially opened by Chief Development Officer Heather Lewtas, the Accelerator provides early‑stage teams with the environment, support and momentum needed to develop their ideas at pace. With dedicated offices, collaboration areas and room to grow, the space mirrors the energy and agility of a start‑up, giving teams the freedom to experiment, iterate and engage with potential partners, clients and investors.
The Accelerator is already supporting emerging ventures, including Simvue, a technology transfer project preparing to spin out from UKAEA. “Having a space where we can work like a start‑up has been brilliant,” said potential founder Aby Abraham. “It’s helped us shift mindset, collaborate more closely and build confidence as we move towards commercialisation.”
The new facility forms a key part of UKAEA’s broader innovation offering, which includes technology transfer support, entrepreneurial training and specialist IP expertise. Together, these services create a clear pathway from idea to impact – helping ensure that breakthrough technologies don’t stop at the lab, but progress into high‑growth companies capable of delivering economic, societal and environmental benefit for the UK.
By supporting spinout teams at a pivotal stage, the Spinout Accelerator strengthens UKAEA’s entrepreneurial culture and reinforces its commitment to generating value from innovation. Teams, partners and collaborators interested in learning more about the Accelerator or UKAEA’s innovation programmes are encouraged to get in touch.
