VANTAGE-Reactions
A scalable, flexible, and extensible library for adding reactions / particle transformations to particle codes built on top of the NESO-Particles library.
Overview
VANTAGE-Reactions is a library that allows users to add reactions to particle codes built using NESO-Particles. The focus is on providing neutral particle modelling capabilities in a performance-portable, GPU-native manner with support for coupling to exhaust codes.
Who it’s for
VANTAGE-Reactions is for developers of plasma codes that require modelling of kinetic neutrals (for example, tokamak exhaust codes, low-temperature plasma codes)
Software details
VANTAGE-Reactions is a scalable, flexible, and extensible library for adding reactions/particle transformations to particle codes built on top of the NESO-Particles library.
It is built and installed as a compiled runtime library (libVANTAGE-Reactions.so) that ships pre-compiled template instantiations and SYCL device code.
Features provided by the library are:
- an extensible reaction abstraction, designed to be modular, separating the data and the actions on the parents / products
- a uniform and extensible interface for producing particle subgroups by composing marking strategies
- a uniform and extensible interface for defining, composing and applying transformations to particle groups, including marking
- an interface for applying down-sampling strategies to particle groups
- an interface for applying surface reactions with pre-built reflection kernels and data
- N-dimensional linear interpolation of grid-based reaction data performed on-device (for example, GPU)
- an interface for the simultaneous application of multiple reactions to the relevant particles and the handling of reaction products
- various helper interfaces for defining particle species as well as generating uniform particle specs
- a collection of pre-built reactions / reaction data / reaction kernels
This library only deals with the definition and application of particle transformations useful for reacting particles in particle codes. VANTAGE-Reactions is NOT a particle code itself. It does not deal with moving the particles around and is mesh agnostic. It does not define a standard set of reactions / species but provides the tools to do so.
