Diagnostics Innovation Centre of Excellence (DICE)
UKAEA's Diagnostics Innovation Centre of Excellence offers world-leading expertise in fusion diagnostic design, development and deployment.
DICE is UKAEA’s specialist centre for fusion diagnostics. We design, develop and deploy the measurement systems that tell scientists and engineers what is happening inside a fusion plasma – its temperature, density, shape and stability.
We work with fusion programmes around the world. If you need diagnostic expertise, get in touch with our team.

What we do
We provide end-to-end support for fusion diagnostics, from early design through to installation and operation. Our team has decades of hands-on experience working on machines including MAST Upgrade and the Joint European Torus (JET), including with deuterium-tritium fuel mixtures.
We can help with:
- diagnostic design, development and testing
- installation and commissioning on fusion devices
- data analysis and operational support
- actuator systems, including matter injection for fuelling and disruption mitigation
To date, DICE has delivered contracts for over 10 organisations, including with US ITER.
Where we are based
DICE is based at Culham Campus in Oxfordshire, home to the UK’s fusion research programme. Our laboratories are equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic systems currently in development.
Why work with us
The UK holds a world-leading position in analytical instrumentation. DICE brings that expertise together with UKAEA’s operational fusion knowledge to offer a service that is genuinely unique.
We also work with adjacent industries, including medical research, and support the growth of the UK supply chain in this sector.
