UKAEA is pleased to announce the upcoming launch of a new Fusion Industry Programme challenge. It aims to encourage innovation in the development of lithium technologies.
The challenge is ‘Realising the potential of lithium in an economic, sustainable and scalable fusion energy fuel-cycle’. It gives organisations the opportunity to apply for up to £1.5 million for prototype development and evaluation. The challenge is now live and the submission deadline is 19 July, at 11.00am.
The aim of this competition is to encourage innovation in the development of Lithium in an economic, sustainable, and scalable fusion energy fuel cycle.
As a growing industry, knowledge transfer from other technical and engineering sectors is vitally important. However, projects should focus on developing UK industrial capability to lead the world in fusion fuel-cycle services. Areas of interest include:
- Isotopic enrichment
- Tritium extraction
- Conversion and manufacturing
the UKAEA’s Fusion Industry Programme will fund the contracts, awarded through the UK Government platform ‘Small Business Research Initiative’.
The UKAEA’s Fusion Industry Programme (FIP) launched in 2021. It aims to stimulate growth of the UK fusion ecosystem and prepare it for the future global fusion power plant market. Through FIP, UKAEA has awarded more than £5 million to organisations to demonstrate how their innovative technologies and proposed solutions can help make fusion energy a commercial reality.
