New apprenticeships launched to boost clean energy workforce
UKAEA and MTC Training are launching two new apprenticeships to increase access to fusion and nuclear training. Expanded training at Oxfordshire Advanced Skills' centre at Culham Campus supports this, aligning with the UK Government’s goals to grow the clean energy workforce.

UKAEA and MTC Training have announced the launch of two new apprenticeship programmes to open pathways into careers in the fusion and nuclear sectors. The Level 2 apprenticeship programmes will bolster the future workforce and open pathways to learners who may not have considered careers in fusion and nuclear sectors.

- Level 2 apprenticeship programmes established to address recognised national shortage in Health Physics Technicians and Decommissioning Operatives
- UK Atomic Energy Authority and MTC Training utilising existing relationship at purpose-built Oxfordshire Advanced Skills Training Centre at UKAEA’s Culham Campus
- Qualifications and training to be made available in new areas
- Proactive approach recognises that fusion, nuclear and adjacent sectors all require similar skills
- Courses already full for 2025 intake, with high interest from companies for 2026
