You can now apply to host an eight-week undergraduate intern through UKAEA’s Fusion Opportunities in Skills, Training, Education and Research (FOSTER) programme.
We have funding for 40 placements in 2026.
Over the last four years UKAEA has supported more than 160 placements across UK fusion organisations and universities, with some interns progressing to job offers.
What we fund
Students receive £4,500 towards living costs, which helps us reach a wider range of candidates.
Internships can cover any area relating to fusion energy, including science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) projects, finance, commercial work, project management, policy or strategy.
Who can apply
We welcome applications from UK fusion organisations and universities wanting to host undergraduate students who are graduating after September 2026.
Placements run between June and August 2026.

Applications close on 24 February 2026. If successful, your company then recruits your intern through your own processes.
