UKAEA public open day with IF Oxford – October 2026

We’d like to invite the public to UKAEA’s open day.

Our open day offers you a unique opportunity to see in person some of the amazing work we are doing to develop sustainable fusion energy. You will get:

• an introductory talk covering the basics of fusion energy
• a tour of the world’s largest fusion experiment – the world record breaking Joint European Torus (JET)
• a tour of our Remote Applications in Challenging Environments (RACE) robotics facility

Engineers, scientists and technicians, who are currently working on the experiments, will lead the tours. This guarantees a genuine insight into what it’s like to work in fusion. You will have the opportunity to directly ask our passionate researchers anything about our work here at UKAEA.

Bring your questions and curiosity as you discover just how we are creating star-power on Earth. See two of the leading facilities responsible for this ground-breaking research, pushing us closer to delivering fusion energy for all.

Note: anyone attending this event is required to wear closed-toe shoes and a hard hat (a hard hat will be provided on the day).

This open day is for the general public. If you work at UKAEA, sign up for the Friends and Family Open Evening instead, which will be available to book soon.

Registration

You must register by completing the registration form. We encourage you to log into Indico (the web-based event management system hosting this site) to register.

Who can attend

You are welcome to attend with friends and family, but please note there is a maximum of 10 tickets per group. There is a minimum age limit of 12 years old. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Due to high demand and limited availability, only register if you are confident you can attend. This helps us manage resources and ensure effective use of places.

Ticket and key dates

This event is in person. Places are limited due to room capacity. Registration may close earlier than the advertised deadline if capacity is reached.

When registering, we will ask you to select either the morning (11am to 1pm) or the afternoon session (2pm to 5pm).
